Description of WebQuest/Prior Knowledge and Skills- Grade Level :
This WebQuest was made specifically for 3rd grade, but with modifications it can be used in upper grades. This project does not require any specific prior knowledge. The KWL chart that is done before the project will help you figure out what your students already know.

Standards:
CCSS-Writing Standards K-5, Grade 3 Students: Research to Build and Present Knowledge, 7. Conduct short research projects to build knowledge about a topic.
Missouri GLE-Information Literacy: 1.Develop and apply effective research process skills to gather, analyze and evaluate information. A-Grade 3-Use resources to:a. identify relevant information, b. record main ideas and important details in own words, c. record information using organizational strategies
Habits of Mind:15. Thinking Independently-Work together! Being able to work in and learn from others in reciprocal situations. Team work.
21st Century Skills: Life and Career Skills-Social and Cross-Cultural Skills: Interact Effectively with Others
-Know when it is appropriate to listen and when to speak
-Conduct themselves in a respectable, professional manner

Grouping:
To choose groups of four, I draw sticks with my student's names on them. Groups could also include double experts by pairing up low and high level students to each research the same animal. If needed, you can group students based on how well they work with their peers.
Differentiated Learning:
If groups finish before others, there is an extension activity on the conclusion page. (Step Five). Also, offline resources include text of varied reading levels.
End Product:
Step Four's group project is not specific because I want students to have a choice in what project they make. My goal is to have multiple end products to share at the end. For my class I plan on giving each group a choice of making a Prezi, Animoto video, Movie Maker video, Power Point presentation, poster, or any project that will be able to convey the message they are required to share.
